Couples can be married as soon as 24 hours after arriving in Jamaica, providing prior application has been made for a marriage license.

Requirements:

  • Proof of citizenship – certified copy of birth certificate which includes father’s name
  • Parental consent if under 18 years of age
  • Original certificate of divorce or certified copy of death certificate where applicable.
  • License fee of US$80.00

Double check your requirements for marrying in a foreign country.  If your country’s language is not English, and your country does not have an Embassy in Jamaica, you may have other requirements for legalising your documents.

Marriage Officers can officiate either at your place of choice and are able to provide witnesses. Cost range anywhere from US$50 – US$250.

The marriage requirements for Guadeloupe are very easy to meet!

Guadeloupe Marriage Requirements

  • Couples should be on Guadeloupe for two full working (week) days before the wedding day.
  • Both parties must have either a valid passport or birth certificate.
  • A decree absolute or death certificate must be presented if applicable.
  • An affidavit is required confirming single status. This can be obtained from a Notary Public in the home country or on island for a cost of US$ 20.00 or EC$ 50.00 (compulsory in Guadeloupe)

Catholic Unions

  • If the ceremony is to be performed by a Catholic priest, it must take place in a Catholic Church, and a letter must come from the couple’s resident priest verifying that they are unmarried and have received the necessary instructions.

Anglican Unions

  • If an Anglican priest or other minister of religion is to perform the ceremony, a letter must come from the couple’s resident minister verifying that they are known and unmarried.

Fees

  • $80 – If the couple is residing or staying on Guadeloupe for the minimum period of two-week days
  • $20 – If the couple is residing here for 15 days prior to the marriage, the fee is only US $20.

Above fees does not include Marriage Officer’s fees which is additional and varies according to officer.

The following is an outline of the requirements for getting married in Grenada.

Couples must be resident in Grenada for at least three working days before their wedding.

Application for a Marriage License need to be made in person at the Prime Minister’s Office. This should be done only after the necessary stamp duty and license fees have been paid at the Treasury office.
This license should be ready two days after.

Documents required

  • Valid Passports
  • Decree Absolute if either party is divorced.
  • An affadavit, or a letter from a clergyman, lawyer, or Registry on official letterhead attesting to the fact that the parties involved have not been married previously.
  • Death certificate if either party is widowed.
  • Parental consent if under the age of 21.

Requirements For Getting Married Dominican Republic

The following is a list of requirements for getting married in the Dominican Republic.

Get Married In Dominican Republic

  • Valid identification, passport and birth certificate.
  • Notarized Statutory Declarations of Single Status.
  • Divorce certificate or death certificate (if applicable). In both cases, a minimum waiting period of ten months applies before a woman can remarry.
  • Two witnesses holding valid passports.
  • US citizens are required to write to the American Consulate in Santo Domingo requesting permission to marry.
  • $100 US each legalization, $40 US each translation.
  • Must be 18 years of age.

The birth certificate, statutory declarations and the divorce or death certifcated have to be translated and legalized by the Dominican Republic Consulate.

Please note that your first, middle and last name must be the SAME in your passport and statutory declaration. If name is different on your birth certificate, please indicate that in point 1 of your declaration.

Please note that some Canadian institutions require the Dominican Marriage Certificate to be translated and legalized by the Dominican Republic Consulate in Canada. Please contact Dominican Republic Services for further details.

The following outlines will prepare you for your wedding in Dominica.

  • One member of the couple must be in Dominica for a minimum of two (2) days prior to the ceremony.
  • Birth Certificates and passports must be presented.
  • Completed application form must be signed by both parties in the presence of a magistrate.
  • Couple must sign separate completed declaration forms before a Commissioner of Oaths. $5.00 postage stamp must be affixed to each form and marital status form.
  • A Decree of divorce or death certificate of former spouse must be provided where applicable.
  • A license fee of $300.00 must be paid on submission of all above documents.

Once the license is issued it must be presented to the Registrar at the time of the marriage ceremony.

Additional Costs

  • Marriages with the Registrar’s Office – EC $30.00
  • Marriages celebrated outside the Registrar’s Offices will cost EC $100.00 plus a reasonable transportation fee.
  • Lawyers fee for statuary declaration on marital status (inclusive of Affidavit) – EC $500.00

Church Weddings

Roman Catholic

  • Must fulfill Government’s requirements.
  • Must have documentation from respective Parish Priest indicating that appropriate preparation courses have been followed
  • Must visit the Parish Priest in Dominica who may offer counseling.
  • Cost of church wedding – EC $150.00

Methodist

  • Must seek permission from the Government.
  • Must publish bans and purchase marriage license.
  • Must attend counseling sessions, normally three sessions.

Its very easy to tie the knot in Cayman Island:

  • There is no waiting period to get married in the Cayman Islands.
  • Couples must make arrangements for a marriage officer. This should be done before filing the application for the Marriage License.
  • The Non-Resident Marriage License can then be procured. This can be ready the same day as the application.

Other Requirements Include:

  • Cayman Islands International Immigration Department Pink Slip showing proof of entry.
  • Cruise passengers may present their ship boarding passes to demonstrate they are legally in port.
  • Valid passports or original or certified copies of birth certificates along with photo identification.
  • Parental consent is required if under 18.
  • Original divorce or death certificates are required where applicable.
  • Two witnesses must be present at the ceremony.
  • Marriage license fees of $200 U.S.

If you will like to get married in Cancun you must contact a coordinator and present the following documents at the latest fourteen days before the planned ceremony:

  • Tourist cards (obtained upon arrival at the Cancun Airport)
  • Birth certificate with the apostille and Spanish translation
  • Blood tests (VDRL, IRH, HIV) have to be done in Cancun : US$25 per person 15 days prior to the wedding
  • Original passports, divorce decree, death certificate (where applicable)
  • Name, address, age, nationality, and tourist card numbers for the four mandatory witnesses.

Requirements For Getting Married Bristish Virgin Islands

Follow these steps to prepare for your wedding on the British Virgin Islands

  • You can apply for the marriage license on the day of your arrival in the BVI but you must be on the island for at least three days before the ceremony can take place.
  • The fee of $110.00 (in BVI postage stamps) for a Special License for those residents in the BVI for three days is required.
  • If you have been on the island for 15 days or more the fee is reduced to $50.00 (in BVI postage stamps) for an Ordinary License.
  • Passport is required as proof of identity and to confirm date of arrival in the British Virgin Islands.
  • Couple must also present proof of marital status (certified or original copies of decree absolute for divorced spouses or death certificates for deceased spouses.)
  • Two witnesses are required for signing license application and two witnesses must present at the marriage ceremony.(They do not need to the same two witnesses)

Once the application has been processed, the couple must present themselves at the office of the Registrar General to schedule an appointment for the ceremony.

Weddings are performed by the Registrar General outside the Office between the hours of 9:00am and 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday, and inside the Office between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

A complete application with the following is required by the Registrar:

  • The names of the two parties as it appears on your travel documents
  • The ages of both parties
  • The occupation of both parties
  • Marital status
  • The names of the two witnesses to the ceremony
  • $35.00 if wedding ceremony is performed in the office, and $100.00 if it is performed elsewhere.

If you wish to be married in a church of your choice, Wedding Banns must be published on three (3) consecutive Saturdays or Sundays in that church. You must make arrangements with the Minister of the church in advance. Publishing of banns is not necessary if a license is obtained.

The marriage requirements for Bonaire are very easy to meet!

  • Couples should be on Bonaire for two full working days before the wedding day.
  • Both parties must present a valid passport or birth certificate.
  • If either party is divorced, a decree absolute must be presented.
  • Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a notarized translation.
  • A copy of the death certificate of the deceased spouse must be presented if either party is widowed.
  • If the couple is residing or staying on Bonaire for the minimum period of two working days, the license fee is US $80. This fee is reduced to only $20 if the couple resides in Bonaire for 15 days prior to the marriage.
  • Singles must present an affidavit confirming their status. This can be obtained from a Notary Public in the home country or on island for a cost of US$ 20.00 or EC$ 50.00.

Catholic Requirements

  • If the couple requires a Catholic union, it must take place in a Catholic Church. A letter from the couple’s resident priest verifying that they are unmarried and have received the necessary premarital counseling is also required.

Anglican Requirements

  • If an Anglican priest or other minister of religion is to perform the ceremony, a letter must come from the couple’s resident minister verifying that they are known and unmarried.

If the couple is resident in Bonaire for the stipulated period, a notary public and a marriage officer would have to be paid, and the charges vary from island to island and from officer to officer.

With these very simple requirements you can getting married in the Paradise of Bermuda:

  • A Bermuda Government form entitled the Notice Of Intended Marriage must be completed. Ideally, this should be sent four weeks before the wedding.
  • The completed application should be mailed along with a cashiers check,  international money order or bank draft payable to the Accountant General, Bermuda in the amount of US$220, to the Registry General.
  • Parental consent is required if either party is under 18 years of age.
  • Divorce or death certificates should be sent where applicable.
  • Once the Registry General receives these papers, the registrar will place the announcement of your intended marriage in press.  Provided there are no valid objections,  the license will be issued.
